Campus Director (M/F)
Mamaland, a Mota-Engil Group company, is dedicated to the development and maintenance of sustainable systems through a more inclusive approach, with the aim of generating Prosperity for the Planet and for People. The MoRe Project is a large-scale initiative, with an expected duration of 40 years, focused on forest restoration and sustainable development in Malawi. The project aims to restore 555,000 hectares of degraded land through reforestation, agroforestry, and assisted natural regeneration, while promoting the active involvement of local communities. Through this approach, MoRe seeks to generate long-lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits, contributing to ecological resilience and the well-being of populations.
Role description:
The Campus Director will be responsible for the overall management, coordination, and operational performance of the MoRe Malawi DZALANYAMA CAMPUS, ensuring that its infrastructure, accommodation, offices, industrial and common areas, and support services operate safely, efficiently and in accordance with the project’s requirements and timelines.
This is a senior position requiring a highly analytical and hands-on professional, capable of integrating facilities management, administration, logistics, maintenance, procurement support, cost control, service-provider management, and team coordination.
The role requires strong leadership and the ability to operate effectively in a complex and multicultural Malawian environment.
Main Responsabilities:
- Lead the overall planning, organization, and day-to-day management of the MoRe Malawi DZALANYAMA CAMPUS.
- Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of Campus buildings, offices, accommodation facilities, common areas, nurseries, utilities, and associated infrastructure.
- Coordinate Campus support services, including accommodation, catering, cleaning, laundry, waste management, utilities, access control, and general facilities services.
- Prepare and manage the Campus operational budget, ensuring rigorous monitoring of costs, commitments, and expenditure.
- Analyze operational and financial data, identify trends and propose practical measures to improve service quality, efficiency, and cost control.
- Plan Campus capacity and resource requirements in line with project mobilization, workforce levels and operational needs.
- Manage Campus suppliers, contractors and service providers, ensuring compliance with agreed scope, service levels, costs, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
- Establish preventive and corrective maintenance plans for Campus infrastructure, facilities and technical systems.
- Monitor the reliability and consumption of water, electricity, fuel and other utilities, proposing efficiency and contingency measures where necessary.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Logistics, Warehouse, Equipment, SHEQ and Security functions.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and business continuity arrangements relating to Campus operations.
- Act as the principal interface between Campus operations, project management, and the different operational departments.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Business Administration, Logistics, Operations Management or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, including substantial responsibility for facilities, camps, compounds, etc.
- Proven senior management experience (fields of construction, or infrastructure, or forestry, or industrial sectors);
- Proven professional experience in Africa and in remote or operationally demanding locations.
- Strong knowledge of SAP and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong analytical capability, with demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, KPI monitoring and management reporting.
- Experience managing contractors, suppliers, service-level agreements and multidisciplinary teams..
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
- Fluency in English is mandatory. Portuguese would be an advantage.
- Valid international driving licence.
- Availability to live and work in Malawi and travel to other project locations when required.
