Rigger Operator

Mission
The Rigger will be responsible for preparing, installing, moving, and dismantling heavy loads, ensuring that all hoisting, lashing, and securing operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with technical procedures and safety standards.
Main Responsibilities
• Plan, prepare, and execute hoisting and cargo handling operations (using cables, chains, straps, hooks, etc.);
• Inspect and check rigging equipment before each operation (hooks, straps, pulleys, chains, etc.);
• Ensure that lashing and support methods comply with load, weight, and center of gravity specifications;
• Work closely with crane operators, maintenance staff, and supervisors to coordinate hoisting and moving operations;
• Interpret technical drawings, rigging diagrams, and load lifting instructions;
• Ensure that all tasks are performed in accordance with safety procedures, internal standards, and legal requirements;
• Immediately report any unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment malfunctions;
• Keep the work area organized, clean, and safe.
Requirements
• Minimum of 3 years' proven experience as a Rigger or equivalent role, preferably in an industrial, construction, or heavy engineering environment;
• Technical training in rigging, hoisting operations, or related areas (mechanics, industrial maintenance, civil construction);
• Fluent English (spoken and written) — essential for communicating with the team, supervisors, and reading technical documentation;
• Knowledge of another local language or additional communication skills are an advantage but not mandatory.
Mandatory certifications
• Recognized Rigging Competent Person / Rigger certificate (national/international);
• Working at Height and Confined Spaces training (where applicable);
• Industrial Safety / HSE (Occupational Safety) Certificate;
• Experience in reading technical drawings and basic load capacity calculations;
• Familiarity with international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO, or internal company standards).
Interpersonal Skills
• Strong teamwork and clear communication skills;
• Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors and in varying conditions;
• High sense of responsibility and compliance with safety standards.
Working Conditions
• Work on site/in the field in Nigeria, with internal travel as necessary;
• Mandatory use of PPE (helmet, gloves, safety footwear, etc.);
• Possibility of flexible working hours.
