Job Summary
The Crane Truck Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining crane trucks used for lifting, transporting, and positioning materials on construction sites. The role ensures compliance with lifting standards, road safety regulations, and company procedures to support efficient and safe project delivery.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate crane trucks to lift, move, transport, and position construction materials and equipment as directed.
- Conduct pre-trip, pre-start, and post-operation inspections and maintain accurate equipment logbooks.
- Ensure safe rigging, slinging, signaling, and communication during lifting operations.
- Interpret load charts, lifting drawings, and method statements to ensure safe handling of loads.
- Follow lifting plans, Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures, and site safety regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance checks and report mechanical faults for repair.
- Transport loads safely in compliance with Ugandan traffic and site regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of operations, fuel usage, and maintenance history.
- Participate in toolbox talks, HSE meetings, and refresher training programs.
- Support general site tasks such as loading assistance, material handling, or housekeeping when not operating the crane.
- Promote a strong safety culture and report potential hazards, unsafe acts, or near misses.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Certificate in HIAB Operation, Crane Operation, Plant/Equipment Operation, or Heavy Goods Transport.
- Training in rigging, slinging, and lifting safety is an advantage.
- Valid Uganda Driver’s Licence: Class CH for heavy trucks and Class F for engineering/construction machinery.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience operating HIAB or crane trucks and driving trucks in a construction environment.
- Proficiency in HIAB/crane operation and load chart interpretation.
- Knowledge of rigging, slinging, signaling, and safe lifting practices.
- Equipment inspection and basic maintenance abilities.
- Ability to follow lifting procedures, PTW systems, and road safety regulations.
- Accurate record keeping, reporting, and log maintenance.
- Strong safety awareness, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Reliability, discipline, and adherence to company policies and safety culture.
