Workshop Machinist (m/f)

To support mining operations in the Benishangul-Gumuz region, Mota-Engil is sourcing a highly skilled and disciplined machinist with a minimum of 12 years of hands-on experience in operating lathe and drill machines. The role requires strong expertise in turning, internal and external thread cutting, boring, and material selection for machining.

 

Role Title: Workshop machinist

Reporting To: Workshop supervisor/maintenance manager

Location: Project Site (Kurmuk Gold Mine)

Nationality: Ethiopian

 

Core Competencies & Responsibilities

1. Technical Machining skills

  • Drawing interpretations: must understand and read mechanical drawings and interpret the drawing to manufacture the required piece.
  • Pression measurements: must know how to use precision tools like calipers and micrometers.
  • Tooling set up and selection: selecting the proper tool for the work to be done.
  • Material selection: know the property of different types of materials and use them accordingly. Understand the characteristics of each metal, steel, cast iron, aluminum, bronze, copper.

2. Operational Leadership

  • Job Allocation and workflow optimization: Proper planning, good communication with workshops and fleet supervisors to identify priorities and execute jobs on time.
  • Maintenance and follow up on machines: Proper cleaning and follow up on the lathe and drill machines. Finalize the weekly inspections checklist to assure the well being of the machines.

3. Safety, Culture & Compliance

  • Mota-Engil Safety Ethics: Strict adherence to corporate safety protocols, ensuring "Zero Harm" through Toolbox Talks (TBT), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and regular risk assessments.
  • Housekeeping (5S): Implementing and maintaining a world-class housekeeping culture; ensuring a clean, organized, and hazard-free workshop environment.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Proper management of hazardous waste (used oils, filters, and chemicals).

 

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: 12+ years in manual lathe machine operation.
  • Education: Diploma in workshop machinist or related field.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Proficient in manual lathe machine operation.
  • Language: English is a must (fluent in technical reporting and verbal communication).
