Safety Officer (m/f)

To support mining operations in the Benishangul-Gumuz region, Mota-Engil is seeking a Safety Officer to promote and maintain SHEQ compliance across all operational areas of the mine site. The role is responsible for conducting field inspections, identifying hazards and risks, monitoring compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards, and supporting the implementation of SHEQ initiatives aimed at preventing injuries, incidents, environmental impacts, and operational non-conformities. The Safety Officer will work closely with operational teams to foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company procedures and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct daily safety inspections in operational and work areas.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions and behaviours.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and proper use of PPE.
- Participate in incident, accident, and near-miss investigations.
- Support risk assessments (JHA/TRA) and implementation of corrective actions.
- Deliver toolbox talks and safety awareness activities.
- Monitor environmental requirements and housekeeping standards.
- Prepare inspection reports, incident records, and corrective action follow-ups.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Education: Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Certifications: NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, OSHA, or equivalent safety qualification (preferred).
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years' experience in safety within mining, construction, industrial, or heavy equipment environments.

Skills and Competencies

• Knowledge of risk assessment and incident investigation processes.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong observation and hazard identification abilities.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Fluent in English (mandatory).

Additional Requirements

• Valid driving licence (mandatory).
• Willingness to work in a remote mining environment.
